Overview

So what: WeCourts is a Dubai-headquartered padel-tournament-operations platform that has rapidly evolved from a 2022 UAE event-directory into a full WPPR-rated organizer hub with mobile apps, a public developer API, a live-TV display product, and an open public roadmap. Their wedge is a MENA-concentrated player identity graph (WPPR). Their gaps are payments, leagues, and trust/data-quality.

Claimed scale (treat as marketing, not active-user count)

  • 3,500+ tournaments, 25K+ players, 450+ clubs (footer) — screenshots/01-home.png
  • 92 total organizers, 31 WPPR Partners — screenshots/04-organizers.png
  • 151 tournaments published to WPPR in the last 30 days — screenshots/16-results-tracker.png
  • 22 cities in clubs filter — screenshots/05-clubs.png

Red flag on player count: Android Play Store shows 500-1000 installs (screenshots/26-android-app.png). If 25K+ players were real active accounts, Android installs should be ≥5-10K minimum. Best read: WPPR is a rated-record count, not an account count. Ratings are seeded by organizer-submitted results — a player can have a WPPR rating without ever signing up. The "looking for partner" flow exposes this: visible players show WPPR IDs (P-prefix, 5 hex chars) and ratings without proof they ever installed the app.

Update 2026-05-22 (post-Phase-3 walk): The redesigned WPPR landing page at /rating/wppr (screenshots/67-rating-wppr-full.png, raw-html/67-rating-wppr.text.txt) updates the headline metric to "20,000+ verified players" (corrected DOWN from 25K) plus a NEW metric "250K+ matches played" — match-corpus size. Footer remains at 25K and 450+ clubs, suggesting the WPPR landing page has the latest numbers and the footer is stale. The Android install count is still 500-1000 — the 4-20x gap between rated-records and installs holds.

Additionally, the Phase 3 onboarding walk produced direct evidence of the identity graph in action: logging in with nestor@thepadelsociety.co auto-populated Nestor's Thailand phone +66620230022 on the onboarding screen without him ever entering it. The graph clearly stores cross-organizer player records and links them on email match. This is the moat.

Business model

  • Free for organizers to list ("Free Forever" — 15-new-tournament.text.txt)
  • Free for players to register and claim WPPR profile
  • Payments not yet shipped ("WeCourts Payments" still "In Progress" on public roadmap — 32-featurebase.text.txt)
  • Today: organizers collect fees offline (bank transfer, cash, WhatsApp — 46-jordan-drawer.text.txt says "First paid = first confirmed")
  • WPPR Partner tier is sales-led, not self-serve — "Become Partner" footer links to WhatsApp +971 52 893 2202 (screenshots/01-home.png footer)
  • Developer API gated by token request — public marketing page only (12-dev-api.text.txt)

Implication: today's revenue must come from (a) WPPR Partner subscriptions / partnership fees (sales-qualified, not visible to us) and/or (b) API access fees (token-gated) and/or (c) federation partnership fees. When payments ship, take-rate becomes feasible.

Update 2026-05-22 (post-Phase-3 walk): The redesigned WPPR landing page (raw-html/67-rating-wppr.text.txt) shows "OFFICIAL RATING PARTNER FOR: Egypt Padel Federation, Jordan Tennis Federation" — confirming at least 2 federation deals are in place. This is a meaningful revenue + credibility moat. They are also marketing booking-system integrations live with PadelOS and Epic Padel (additional revenue lever potential — likely API access fees from booking-system vendors), plus AI camera feed integrations for smart courts (BD-only path). The full data-aggregation play ("WPPR Watch") aggregates external sources (FIP, Premier Padel, RankedIn, Winner App, Tournify) — they're positioning as a hub, not a closed silo.

Open user pain points (Featurebase feedback, days-to-weeks old)

  • Duplicate player profiles caused by name typos, no self-service merge — multiple complaints (Jiten, Elie Nasr) — 32-featurebase.text.txt
  • Wrong match attribution — matches credited to wrong player (Walid Nsouli) or wrong partner (Zaki)
  • Cross-platform integration broken — Padel Art's separate rating doesn't sync cleanly to WPPR
  • Regression: profile merge UI was removed — "I think that option was there before"

These pains are the seams in wecourts's identity graph. The graph is their moat; the seams are our potential wedge.

Geographic concentration (cities visible)

UAE: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Khor Fakkan (7) Other MENA: Amman (Jordan), Riyadh (KSA), Kuwait City, Manama (Bahrain), Muscat (Oman), Madaba (Jordan) South Asia: Karachi (Pakistan) + "Show All 22 Cities" (12 visible, 10 hidden behind expand) — screenshots/05-clubs.png

Stack & infrastructure (inferred from browser network + DOM)

  • Frontend: SPA (React-ish — bottom-sheet drawers, no full page reloads on card clicks; Tailwind class strings observed)
  • Backend: Supabase (DOM grep), /api/v1/* REST namespace (e.g., /api/v1/organization)
  • CDN + edge: Cloudflare (Polish, Image Resizing via /cdn-cgi/image/*, Turnstile Managed Challenge on bot probe)
  • Roadmap + changelog + in-app feedback: Featurebase (tenant wecourts.featurebase.app, widget served from do.featurebase.app)
  • Analytics: Google Analytics via gtag (__wecourtsGaBootstrapped global)
  • Auth: Supabase Auth — magic link / email-password + Google OAuth (signup form)
  • Maps: Google Maps embed on club + event pages
  • Mobile: Native iOS + Android (not confirmed framework — could be React Native or Flutter; not directly observable from listings)

Note: no observed Sentry, no observed PostHog, no Stripe/Telr/Tap script tags (consistent with "payments not yet shipped").

Comparison hooks for OpenRally

  • Sport scope: Wecourts = padel only. OpenRally v1 = padel only. Direct overlap.
  • Geographic scope: Wecourts = MENA + Pakistan, "more soon". OpenRally v1 = Thailand-first, Asia-Pacific. Adjacent, not yet overlapping — but Pakistan + Wecourts's "more countries soon" + their global-ambition branding suggests collision risk in 6-18 months.
  • Bracket types: Wecourts ships Single-elim + Groups+KO (with Top-N qualification configurable + Direct Advance + MGG). OpenRally v0.5 ships single-elim only (DECISIONS.md "v0.5 public-bracket"); group+KO not in v0.5 plan.
  • Federation integration: Wecourts has Jordan Tennis Federation, UAEPA, Pakistan Padel Federation as listed organizers. OpenRally DECISIONS.md silent on federation integration.
  • Rating algorithm: Wecourts ships proprietary WPPR with manual review queue + AI rating calc. OpenRally DECISIONS.md says "No OpenRally-built rating algorithm (v3 integrates external)" — explicit non-goal in v1-v2.
